Niels van Roij Reveals One-Off Testarossa Targa Conversion

Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij Design has unveiled its latest one-off creation: the Guida Touring Sport (GTS), a bespoke Targa reinterpretation of Ferrari’s 1980s twelve-cylinder wedge. The car debuted September 12–14, 2025, at the Concours d’Elegance Mariënwaerdt in the Netherlands.

A Ferrari That Never Was

Ferrari never produced a factory Testarossa Targa, despite limited Spider versions of the 512 TR and a few Pininfarina prototypes. The Guida Touring Sport fills that historical gap, transforming a 1984-era coupe into an open-roof design while preserving the car’s unmistakable profile.

Structural reinforcements were added to the sills, door frames, rear shelf, and central tunnel to maintain rigidity after removing the fixed roof. Characteristic details such as the straked rear flanks and vertical rear window remain untouched.

Craft and Detail

The roof panels are operated with hand-milled aluminum levers, stored in custom-made interior pockets. The cabin itself has been completely re-trimmed, with a newly upholstered dashboard, revised door panels, and bold red carpets set against a black dash. Van Roij describes the project as “coachbuilding in its purest form.”

Classic Power, Contemporary Touch

Power comes from Ferrari’s flat-twelve engine, with van Roij noting the integration of “contemporary technical solutions” to align the car with modern restomod practices, though no specifics have been disclosed.

Presentation in Period Style

The reveal was accompanied by a photo and film campaign styled after the 1980s, including hand sketches and neon-tinted visuals. To emphasize the attention to detail, the studio even commissioned a tailor-made suit whose cut and colors mirrored the car’s design language.

A Unique Statement

Built for a private British client living in Andorra, the Guida Touring Sport will remain a one-off. Like the firm’s earlier Breadvan Hommage and Adventum Coupé, it demonstrates van Roij’s approach to reinterpreting automotive history rather than simply restoring it.
