Expedition Motor Company Expands Into Long Wheelbase Cabrio G-Wagens

FRENCHTOWN, N.J. — Expedition Motor Company (EMC), known among collectors and enthusiasts for its meticulous restorations of Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens, is expanding its portfolio with a bold new offering: the Long Wheelbase (LWB) Cabrio G-Wagen. Building upon nearly a decade of refining its celebrated Short Wheelbase (SWB) 250GD Wolf builds, EMC has turned its expertise toward creating a larger, more versatile iteration of the classic convertible G.

The LWB Cabrio G-Wagen retains the rugged elegance and purposeful aesthetic that define EMC’s work, while introducing new dimensions of space and comfort. The reimagined platform accommodates up to eight passengers—two more than the standard SWB configuration—without compromising the utilitarian authenticity that makes these trucks so beloved.

The first completed build showcases several new features, including redesigned bucket seats, integrated running board side steps, and 18-inch Mercedes Ashtaroth wheels. Power comes from the robust Mercedes OM606a turbodiesel engine, delivering 275 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque—enough to blend genuine Mercedes-Benz diesel character with modern drivability. For those seeking greater performance, EMC also offers its 430-horsepower LS3 V8 option.

“This is a milestone moment for Expedition Motor Company,” said Alex Levin, Founder of EMC. “After years spent perfecting the SWB Wolf, we’re thrilled to apply that same craftsmanship to a larger, more capable Cabrio. It’s everything our clients love about the EMC Wolf—authenticity, character, design—with the added benefit of space for more passengers.”

With this move, EMC further solidifies its standing as a leading name in vintage G-Wagen restoration, appealing to a growing community of collectors who value both originality and refinement.

Commissions for the new Long Wheelbase Cabrio G-Wagen start at $235,000. For inquiries, visit expeditionmotorcompany.com or contact EMC directly at (267) 714-4112.
