There are obscure factory builds and then there are obscure factory builds. This Audi Q5 hybrid is both the former and the latter. Why? For us, it’s the sum of the collective parts that seems so unexpected.

First up is the color. Audi’s Brilliant Yellow is a bold color as one would expect from virtually any yellow, but it’s not the typical Vegas or Imola flavors of bold yellow. You have to figure that the customer who ordered it wanted something different in their bold yellow – something more obscure than Vegas and something with less brand heritage than Imola.
Next, it’s painted on a Q5 e 55. That’s Audi speak for hybrid. And okay, hybrid’s are a specific ask. Audi doesn’t build a lot of them and when they do it’s not entirely uncommon that a hybrid customer would go the extra mile to pay for Audi exclusive paint.

So far, not so obscure. It’s the rest of the build that really cause the head scratching. First, they went with brown interior – a standard brown to be sure, but a pairing that definitely seems to hark color pallets of the 1970s.
Next, they put all that effort into building a very special and very unique hybrid, then ordered it at the base “Premium” level of specification and equipment. Like… if you’re going to put so much effort into it, why order it in basic form?
We don’t have the answers, but we do know this. The net result is pretty cool and definitely unique. It’s also a relatively affordable way to jump into the pool of ownership of tailored vehicles.
