Go far back enough and any paint to sample program gets decidedly more rare, with specimens coming on the market decidedly in thinner numbers. Early program cars are special because special paint services simply weren’t utilized as much. Go back far enough and it was likely more if-you-know-you-know, or maybe even worse in that only internal product managers or auto show fleet managers might have been able to navigate the process.

We’re not entirely sure the case of this 2002 TT Roadster. We’re fairly certain we’ve never seen another like it, shown here in the gold-ish hue of Maya Yellow Metallic that was offered in the same period Audi A3. On an A3 the color wasn’t all that rare, but on the TT it most certainly was… and pairs tidily with that era’s amber “baseball glove” leather with its own yellow accents.

Given our primarily North American bent, the more informed on importation laws will likely tell you this car’s not old enough yet. Alas, it’s January 2002 first-registration means importation on those grounds is some six months out as of this writing. Dig up its manufacture date for evidence and you may get it in slightly sooner.

Even still, we’re sharing it. Why? The TT (Mk1) is becoming more and more of a collector darling both for its impeccable design and its affordable price. Finding the rare special editions and even rarer Audi exclusive examples is worth it to those seeking these cars, even if that means finding a place to store it for a few months before shipping it across the Atlantic.

And if you’re in Europe already, well… have at it.
