BMW Individual wasn't exactly widely utilized in the late 1990s. Sure, M-cars of that period with special paint aren't all that rare, but being found on other more "normal" cars like a 528i sedan is less likely.
Though it was never sold in the USA, the earliest Lotus Elise S1 is now available for import, as are special editions like this Heritage (a.k.a. 79 edition) that plays heavily on the black and gold of the John Player Special livery worn by Lotus F1 in 1978 when they won the driver and constructors championships.
Aventurine Green was a standard color for the 993-generation Porsche 911 in 1996. Left on that alone, this car would be cool in desirable widebody Carrera 4S specification, but it wouldn't qualify as tailored. However, it's once you open the door that you realize how special this car is.
It's probably a total coincidence that we just wrapped on the next issue of the Tailored Driver Podcast (part of the Weekly Driver Podcast series) chatting with Volkswagen of America's former Golf family product manager Megan Closset who managed the Spektrum program in the USA.
Is a Dakar Yellow “clown shoe” the perfect storm of 90s era BMWs? For certain the color was iconic on the E36 M3, and the shootingbrake style of the Z3 M Coupe (a.k.a. “clown shoe”) is an icon in its own right. Both have fierce fans, so add them together and what do you get?
The Audi Q7 is a bit of a Clark Kent. Underneath the dad wagon form of a 7-passenger SUV and more-often-than-not German Rainbow (read: shades of grey) color options lies a great-looking yet utilitarian family hauler. We're fans, and even bigger fans when it's ordered in a racier Audi exclusive color like Misano Red.
Ferrari’s 308 GTS Quattrovalvole stands as a sublime blend of classic styling and technical advancement. Designed by Pininfarina, its timeless targa-top form recalls the golden era of Italian sports cars. Introduced in the early 1980s, the Quattrovalvole (or “four-valve”) engine marked a notable evolution from earlier models.
We're always fond of Volkswagen Golf R Spektrums. Highly unique, they're a great entry point into the tailored driver world. For Spektrum watchers, we particularly love watching the Canadian market where more than their usual share were sold and well-kept examples can be had should you be willing to jump through the few hoops it takes to import one. Among those cars, we believe Magma Orange may be one of the rarer examples and we've confirmed with a Spektrum expert that is the color on the car you see here.
