It’s probably a total coincidence that we just wrapped on the next issue of the Tailored Driver Podcast (part of the Weekly Driver Podcast series) chatting with Volkswagen of America’s former Golf family product manager Megan Closset who managed the Spektrum program in the USA. Megan’s an expert on all things Spektrum, and shared more with us on the range of specially painted eGolfs sold specifically to Canada. Now, 48 hours later, our friends over at @spektrum.only gave us a heads up on this intriguing example.

Okay, the basics on the eGolf Spektrums is that they were a Canada-only affair. They were sold there for multiple years, ranging from 2017 to 2020. According to @spektrum.only, this being a 2020 makes it one of the last of the Spektrum eGolfs (559 out of 577 total). It’s painted in Deep Blue Pearl, one of just three e Golfs in that color. There were also five Golf Rs in this color for Canada and just two produced for the USA.

The eGolf is an interesting car. While not as long a range as newer EVs, it was based on the Golf Mk7 and is a good all-round entry-level car approachable for those looking for an EV experience or a tailored driver experience in the case of a Spektrum. Yes, you’ll need to import it from Canada if that’s not where you reside already, but the exchange rate should help offset costs there.
