Color Check: Audi exclusive RS 3 Sportback in Daytona Grey Polar Matte Effect
It’s fair to say that Audi’s Daytona Grey is relatively ubiquitous. The shade has been offered on so many models, usually bearing “RS” nomenclature… but not always. It’s handsome, but commonality has a way of eroding a paint color’s appeal when considering a tailored build. We’d guess Daytona is fairly on the wane at Audi exclusive, but Daytona Grey Matte is something altogether different.
Why’s Daytona Grey Matte so appealing? Well, for starters it’s a metallic that gives it some extra punch. More importantly, while dark, it’s enough of a shade lighter than black that it pairs so effectively with gloss black optics.
Murdering out a Daytona Grey Matte car is subtle and yet so appealing, making the gloss black details pop, while the matte finish brings into focus every character line of the car. On the most recent RS 3 body, this adds a surprising level of richness.

This is also an RS 3 Sportback. We don’t get this car in North America, and that’s a bit of a shame. On the A3 family, the RS 3 isn’t exactly a Sportback like say an A5 or an A7. It’s instead something like an Avant, but not as long. Think of it like hatchback with a low roofline and you get the picture. To us, this is a most modern interpretation of the Lancia Delta Integrale package… and we’re good with that.
