Porsche Cars Australia has marked 75 years of the brand in Australia with a one-off 911 Turbo S created through the Porsche Sonderwunsch program.
Called the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under, the car was developed by Porsche Cars Australia in collaboration with Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche and Sydney-based contemporary artist Werner Bronkhorst. Its specification draws from Australian landscapes, colors and the Southern Hemisphere night sky.
The most distinctive element is its exterior paint, which uses two new Chromaflair colors developed specifically for the project.
Terra Australis Red begins across the lower body and transitions into Southern Cross Blue above the shoulder line. Porsche says the combination was inspired by an Australian outback sunset, where warmer earth tones transition into the lighter colors of the evening sky.
Chromaflair pigments use thin flakes constructed with a reflective aluminum core surrounded by transparent layers. The resulting finish changes according to light and viewing angle, with Porsche describing colors ranging from desert orange and blue to eucalyptus green and gold.
The paint was applied by hand in seven layers and required more than 300 hours to complete. The 20- and 21-inch Turbo Exclusive wheels are finished in Southern Cross Blue.
Porsche also developed a new paint technique for the roof, where the number “75” appears as a subtle ghosted graphic using Bronkhorst’s own font.
A less subtle detail is hidden underneath the rear spoiler. The words “See ya later mate” become visible when the wing deploys, either through Sport Plus mode or automatically at speeds above 80 km/h.
The Australian theme continues inside with a combination of Dark Night Blue leather and Coolibah Brown, another color developed specifically for the project.
The 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats Plus use a new paintbrush-style perforation pattern based on Bronkhorst’s artwork. Porsche individually positioned 14,417 perforations to create the design, supplemented by embroidery and contrasting Kalahari and Coolibah Brown leather.
The headrests are embossed with a 75 Years Porsche in Australia motif.
Dark Night Blue, Coolibah Brown and Neodyme are also used on the steering wheel, along with a Kalahari-colored 12-o’clock marker.
Australian Silky Oak provides another local connection. The wood is hand-finished and used for inlays across the dashboard and rear seating area, accompanied by Neodyme accents.
Porsche has also incorporated Australian geography into the interior. Topographical representations of the Blue Mountains are printed across the upper dashboard and side trim, creating a contour-line pattern based on the region’s escarpments and valleys.
The headliner looks farther afield for its inspiration. An embroidered constellation map recreates the Southern Hemisphere night sky as it appeared above Uluru in 1951, the year Porsche first arrived in Australia.
Bronkhorst also created a series of miniature artworks depicting Australian wildlife and human-inspired subjects. These are positioned in less obvious locations around the car as smaller details to be discovered.
The Land Down Under demonstrates the extent to which Porsche has expanded the modern Sonderwunsch program beyond conventional color and trim personalization.
For this car, Porsche developed two Chromaflair exterior colors, a new interior color, unique paint and seat-perforation techniques and a series of details created specifically around the Australian theme.
The result is a 911 Turbo S that references Australia without relying on national colors or obvious graphics. Instead, the specification draws from the colors of the outback, Australian timber, Blue Mountains topography and the night sky above Uluru.
It is a one-off commission celebrating 75 years since Porsche first arrived in Australia in 1951.
