Not sure how you feel about Ferrari’s new Luce EV? For many, the jury is still out, and Ferrari appears intent on tipping the scales in its favor by kicking off sales of its newest creation with a charity auction. The first Tailor Made example of the new electric Ferrari—identified as “Chassis 0″—will cross the block during RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale, offering collectors a chance to own not only the first production Luce, but one configured in a specification that can never be duplicated.
While Ferrari estimates the car will bring more than $1.1 million, its significance extends well beyond the hammer price. As the first production chassis of Ferrari’s first fully electric model, this Luce occupies the same sort of historical territory as the earliest examples of milestone cars like the F40, Enzo or LaFerrari. Ferrari has also confirmed that every dollar raised will benefit future educational initiatives through The Ferrari Foundation, adding a philanthropic element to what is already one of Monterey Car Week’s most closely watched offerings.
Appropriately, Ferrari’s Tailor Made department used the theme of light as the inspiration for this one-off commission. The body wears an exclusive Madreperla Semi-Gloss finish developed specifically for this car, incorporating a proprietary pearlescent pigment that shifts between green and violet depending on lighting conditions. Rather than chasing outright gloss, Ferrari opted for a semi-matte finish that accentuates the Luce’s surfacing while making every viewing angle slightly different from the last. Given the complexity of the paint application, Ferrari says the finish itself is effectively impossible to duplicate.
Inside, the cabin continues the same luminous concept. The seats and primary trim are finished in Perla Le Mans metallic leather, an exclusive material developed from carefully selected Swiss hides for the Tailor Made program. Instead of the traditional black secondary trim found in most Ferraris, this car features Grigio Corvara, creating a softer, brighter environment that reinforces the design theme. Even the details are bespoke, from dedicated wheel finishes and unique brake calipers to Ferrari shields presented on an optical white background—elements created solely for this example.
The sale itself comes with a few caveats. Built to U.S. specifications, the car is open to bidders worldwide, though international buyers will assume responsibility for export and homologation. Following the auction, the Luce will return to Maranello before final preparation, with delivery expected during the first quarter of 2027. U.S. buyers will take delivery through an authorized Ferrari dealer to complete the necessary paperwork.
Whether the Luce ultimately becomes as culturally significant as Ferrari hopes remains to be seen. Electric Ferraris still represent unfamiliar territory for many enthusiasts, and first impressions have been mixed. What isn’t in doubt is the collectability of this particular example. As Chassis 0, the inaugural production car of Ferrari’s EV era and a one-off Tailor Made commission that can never be recreated, it stands as one of the most historically significant modern Ferraris to reach the auction block before regular customer deliveries have even begun. For collectors willing to bet on the future, this may prove to be the Luce to own.
