This Bentley takes a remaster approach to the prewar grand tourer, combining recreated coachwork with mechanical changes intended to improve usability. Racing Green Engineering built it from a 1953 R-Type saloon, completing the commission in August 2025. It is now offered by the commissioning owner.

The design follows the Gurney Nutting Speed Six coupe associated with Woolf Barnato and the Blue Train story. There is a historical distinction: Barnato beat the French train in a four-door Speed Six saloon, taking delivery of the better-known coupe afterward. Racing Green’s recreation draws on the coupe’s appearance.
Racing Green has produced Blue Train recreations since 2007, using Bentley chassis, eight-cylinder engines and traditionally constructed bodywork. The program offers a way to commission the familiar design with an individually specified cabin and drivetrain.

For this example, the R-Type received aluminum coachwork and a 6,516-cc B81 straight-eight in place of its original six-cylinder engine. A Bentley Turbo-sourced three-speed automatic, disc brakes and heated seats support the emphasis on usability. The owner also specified three drinks cabinets, under-hood LED lighting and a fitted tool kit.
The remaster description fits the intent: preserving a historic design while adapting the driving experience to the owner’s requirements. Its appeal rests on the execution of that commission, with its identity as a recreation central to understanding the car.
It is scheduled for auction on October 31, 2026.
