The 911 Sport Classic holds a special place in the lexicon of Porsche’s most iconic sportscar. First launched as a special take on the 997 with the return of houndstooth, ducktail spoiler harkening the ’73 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and a so-called “double bubble” roof (along with the arrival of Fashion Grey paint), the original Sport Classic was a Europe-only affair. By the time it returned in the 992 generation, the formula changed just a bit.
That double bubble roof and the ducktail remained. Houndstooth (aka Pepita) has also been a staple. Like the first car, numbers were limited, making it incredibly exclusive regardless. Beyond that, Porsche specced the car with the engine of the 911 Turbo though the Sport Classic marks the only iteration of that engine to be made available with a manual.
Primarily going to longtime Porsche clients, the Sport Classic paired well with Paint to Sample and Sonderwunsch services. So, while any Sport Classic is likely worthy of these pages, we like to give particular preference to the ones in a tasteful specification.
In the case of this car, the paint chosen was Porsche’s Yachting Blue Metallic – a darker blue close to navy but slightly desaturated for a hint of grey. Inside, the car has simple black leather with that aforementioned Pepita / houndstooth for a timeless look…. yes… classic.
