Volkswagen’s Spektrum program turned the Mk7.5 Golf R into something approaching a made-to-order car, offering buyers an unusually broad palette beyond its standard colors. This 2019 Golf R listed in York, Pennsylvania is claimed by its seller to be one of just 10 U.S.-market examples finished in Dark Violet Pearl, and one of only four combining the color with the six-speed manual transmission. Listed at $29,500, it currently shows 100,000 miles.
Dark Violet Pearl is the obvious centerpiece. The deep purple finish was one of the colors offered through Volkswagen’s extra-cost Spektrum program, which dramatically expanded the Golf R color palette during the final years of the Mk7 generation. Paired here with a black interior and OEM Pretoria wheels, it gives an otherwise relatively understated Golf R a specification that’s considerably less anonymous than the typical Lapiz Blue, white, black or gray example.
This isn’t an untouched collector car. The seller lists an EQT tune with Accessport, APR catted downpipe, valved stainless ECS Tuning exhaust, BC coilovers with DCC deletes, Neuspeed rear sway bar, APR dogbone mount, DAP short shifter, Integrated Engineering catch can, Billetworkz shift knob, metal oil pan and aluminum oil-filter housing. More importantly at this mileage, the seller reports substantial recent maintenance at 98,000 miles, including carbon cleaning, a replacement water pump and a new clutch with billet rear main seal.
There are also a few qualifications worth considering. The seller discloses an accident on the Carfax resulting from a tree falling on the hood and fender, as well as an intermittent check-engine light despite installation of a new oxygen sensor and fouler at 98,000 miles. Money is currently owed on the car, although the seller states that the title will be in hand before a sale. At $29,500, this isn’t likely to appeal to someone simply looking for the least expensive 100,000-mile Mk7.5 Golf R. Its case instead rests on a genuinely unusual Spektrum color, the rarer manual configuration and a specification that would be exceedingly difficult to duplicate by shopping ordinary Golf R inventory.
