Twisted Automotive will make its first appearance at The Bridge X in Bridgehampton, New York, with a pair of V8-powered classic Defender 110 commissions, including one finished in the distinctly unusual Hyperion Blue.
The British Land Rover specialist is using its debut at the September 18–20 event to showcase two of its T110 builds for the U.S. market. The headline car pairs the familiar shape of a classic Defender with Hyperion Blue, a color Twisted says is historically associated with rare Ferrari and Maserati models from the 1960s.
It’s an unexpected choice for a Defender, particularly in a segment where greens, greys, earth tones and other traditionally British colors tend to dominate. Here, the considerably more exotic blue provides a different character without requiring significant visual changes to the underlying Land Rover.
Both Defenders have undergone Twisted’s usual comprehensive rebuild process. The company says approximately 2,500 hours go into each commission, beginning with stripping the vehicle to bare metal before rebuilding it from the chassis up. Both of the examples headed to The Bridge X are powered by Chevrolet’s LT1 V8.
Joining the Hyperion Blue T110 will be another T110 finished in Stirling Moss Blue and already commissioned by a U.S. customer. Members of Twisted’s British build team will also be on hand at Bridgehampton to discuss the engineering and construction behind the company’s reworked Defenders.
The appearance represents another step in Twisted’s expansion in the United States, but the two Defenders won’t be the only reason to visit its display.
RANGE ROVER CLASSIC COMING NEXT
Twisted will also show a scale model of its upcoming TRRC, the company’s interpretation of the original Range Rover Classic. The model provides an early preview ahead of the full-size TRRC’s planned U.S. debut later this year.
That move takes Twisted beyond the classic Defender formula upon which much of its reputation has been built and into another increasingly active part of the re-engineered classic market. The original Range Rover’s combination of luxury, relatively restrained design and genuine utility makes it a natural companion to Twisted’s existing Defender program.
For now, however, the Hyperion Blue T110 gets the spotlight. Putting a color associated with 1960s Italian exotica onto one of Britain’s most utilitarian automotive shapes is an unconventional combination, but one that should look entirely at home among the equally eclectic machinery gathered at The Bridge.
