Given the iconic association with the Gulf Oil Company and the movie Le Mans, it’s fair to say that Gulf Blue is one of the more common Paint to Sample offerings while also not always that easy to pull off in a way that doesn’t scream super fan. However, we’d argue this Speedster qualifies as a well executed take on Gulf Blue.
It’s even got the number “meatball” on the door, which at times can also be a liability if not wanting to come off like a super fan. Even here though, we’re giving this car a pass for sheer cool factor.
The listing states leather interior in black but we can clearly see a tan color in the photos and we’re here for it. Gulf Blue + tan may not be the most sporting, but it successfully harks the period when Gulf Blue was first introduced. Nevertheless… meatball or not… Speedster or not… this car isn’t retro.
The paint to match pin striping on the otherwise black wheels is also an excellent touch.
