A factory-tailored Buick is an unusual find. Viewed through the brand’s more mainstream identity today, this 1960 Electra 225 convertible may seem unexpected. It belongs to a different era, when a Buick could serve as an executive’s luxury car—and GM’s design studio could give it an individual specification extending well beyond paint and upholstery.

General Motors Styling reworked this example with fiberglass fins, bespoke taillights, sculpted rear quarters, unique emblems and rectangular ventiports. Special upholstery, stainless-steel hardware and concealed armrest compartments continued the treatment inside.

The rarity lies in that combination: a familiar production model with substantial factory design work. It is an American counterpart to the individual commissions more commonly associated with European luxury marques.

Former owner Richard Sills believed it was built for retired GM president Harlow Curtice; that attribution remains qualified in the auction catalog.
